Ghana Roots Retreat
The Roots Retreat offers an immersive experience strictly for the African diaspora who are in search of their roots. African-Diasporic history didn’t start with slavery – we will bring you back through The Door of No Return, where many of our Ancestors departed from the continent for the last time on their voyage into the Americas upon being trafficked during the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade. We will take you through their horrific journey, then bring you back through the Door of Return – after over 400 years, the descendants of the dearly departed have returned!
You will be welcomed back to Africa with a Diaspora Homecoming Ceremony, where you will be immersed in your rich culture, roots, and heritage, displayed through drumming, song, and dance, and receive a warm reception by Chiefs, Queens, and Kings, alongside the local community in the Region. Elders and historians will narrate the history of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade era and reconcile with the occurrences of the past to pave the way forward.
We will utilize indigenous spiritual divination systems to uncover your identity, root, and lineage in Africa, work through any emergent problems, and perform important cleansings or ceremonies required for your restoration. You will learn the lost rites and passages, ways of life, and spiritual practices that our forefathers once practiced at the core of the strength of the community. Upon reclaiming your identity, you will learn how to pour libations and build your spiritual alter to honor and connect with your ancestors and spirit guides to unlock more protection and blessings along your journey.
Explore Accra, Cape Coast, and the Volta Region, and engage in city tours, learn to prepare traditional Ghanaian meals, embark on an adventure to one of Ghana’s largest waterfalls, and unlock indigenous ways of life to obtain true knowledge of self. By the end of our time together you will be a changed person – one who knows their root.
You did not come to find your roots.
Your roots have been waiting to find you.
And now — they have.
