Ghana Card Price Changes


In a recent announcement, the National Identification Authority (NIA) of Ghana has disclosed a significant update regarding the pricing structure for the Ghana card. There has been a new introduction of a special category for citizens of ECOWAS countries, as well as other African countries.

Effective May 1, 2024, Ghana Card costs for first registrations, replacements, and record changes for Non-citizens and African Nationals have been revised.

Rate changes by nationality:

  • ECOWAS Subregion: 54% reduction
  • Other African countries: 37.5% reduction
  • Countries outside Africa: 4% reduction

What is the Ghana Card?


The Ghana Card is the official National Identity Card issued to Ghanaian citizens and non-citizen residents living in the country. It serves as proof of identity, citizenship, and residence of the holder. The card has many established uses, including SIM card registration, bank account establishment, residence permit registration or renewal, travel documentation, business registration, and more. For individuals spending 3 months or more in the country, a Ghana Card is the next step to unlock necessary accounts to ensure a smooth transition to Ghana.
